Sonic R wallpaper
With the game disc in the CD-ROM drive, open that drive
in My Computer to find wallpaper from the game under the name
"snip".
Purple Chaos Emerald without opening the gate
With Sonic (requires double jump), Mecha Sonic, and
perhaps Mecha Knux, go to location where you would normally get
the Purple Chaos Emerald. Do not open the door. Instead, pass
it. When you reach the 90 degree right turn, make a 90 degree
left turn instead. You will see a road. Jump up there and you
will see the Purple Chaos Emerald.
Ruins: Coin locations
The first coin is in front of the fifty ring door at the left. *** Behind the door is a Chaos Emerald.
After the bridge, take a left and jump on the far spring to get the next coin.
Stay on the main path and go uphill to find the coin in front of a pit.
The next coin is on the top of a hill near the beginning of the stage (to the right).
To get the last coin, turn right before the bridge and go into the water. Go right and forward and you will find a secret tunnel. Go up the hill inside then turn left to find the last coin.
Resort Island: Coin locations
The first coin is located on top of the rock ledge near the beginning of the stage.
The next coin is under the tunnel after the rock ledge (turn left after getting the first coin).
Collect twenty rings and open the door to find the next coin (to the left of the bridge after the 2nd coin).
On the path after the speed boost, go straight instead of turning right. The coin is at the top of the hill.
The last coin is on an island near the tight turn between two bridges (go straight instead of right).
Regal Ruin: Shortcut
Select any character. Turn right when you see the hill
and catapults. Now, turn left when you can. You should see an
archway. Go through the archway and turn left at the fork. Now,
go up the steep hill and go forward. You should reach the end
soon. By doing this, it is possible to finish a lap in 25 seconds.
Repeat this process.
Reactive Factory: Free rings
At the start, turn around and go backward up a ramp.
Keep going until you reach an object that says "ring"
along the right side of the path. Sit there and wait. It will
spew free rings to you; as many as you can hold.
Reactive Factory: Shortcut
Select any character. Turn right when you are catapulted
near the gap in the road. You should skip about five seconds.
Radical City: Shortcut
Select any Sonic form (Sonic, Super Sonic, Mecha Sonic)
and go to Radical City. When you get down to the dip in the track,
turn left and keep going. Pass the 20 rings door and you should
see a line of rings. Keep going and jump past the barrier in the
bend of the road on your left. Now, go left again. If you look
at the map, you should see that you skipped a chunk of the level.
Use Knuckles at the start. At the dip, jump and float. Go down
the stream until reaching a ledge and a road below. Go to the
road and turn left to find the pinball area. Float above that
at the drop. Jump up the gamble bit and take the boost. It is
possible to get a time of 32:00 seconds by doing this trick.
Flying as Tails
When Tails gets to full speed, press [Space].
When he is in mid-air, press [Space] again. He will start
to fly. This can help with getting over water and other obstacles.
Super Sonic's theme
To hear Super Sonic's theme, unlock him, then unlock
the other secret characters and play the Radiant Emerald Course.
During the race you will hear Super Sonic's theme. This is the
last and final race and will be followed by the credits.
Slow characters down
Go to the options menu and select "Controls".
Set them to whatever you are comfortable with, then when you get
down to "Drift", set X for left and V
for right. Then when you want to slow a character down, Amy works
well, go to their side and drift into them. It will slow them
down considerably. They will be left in the back to accelerate
again while you are hurrying past him/her.
Special characters used against you
*** This works when not racing to unlock the character.
If you play as any special unlocked character other than Robotnik,
all other special characters you have will be used against you..
For example, If playing against Tails/Knuckles/Sonic as Super
Sonic, Puppet Tails/Mecha Knuckles/Mecha Sonic will be your opponent.
Hidden pictures
Search the "Help" folder on the game disc
to find 3-D pictures of Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Robotnik/Eggman.
There are also aerial views of all the levels (except for Radiant
Emerald).
Soundtrack
Place the game disc in an audio CD player and play
tracks two and above to hear twenty tracks of music.
View demo
Press [Action] + [Accelerate] to view
the demo, or bypass the Sega and "Traveler's Tales"
screens.
Skip credits
Hold [Action] + [Accelerate] + [Change View] and press [Star .
Control title screen logo
Press the cursor keys at the title screen to rotate
the "R". Press [Change View] to change the color.
Course close-up
Press Up and Down to zoom in and out
at the course selection screen.
Play as robot form character
Get the five Sonic coins in the following levels:
Mecha Sonic: Resort Island
Puppet Tails: Radical City
Mecha Knuckles: Reactive Factory
Mecha Robotnik: Any level with Robotnik
Play as same character
Select multi-player mode, then highlight a character,
hold [Change View] and press [Action].
Play as Mecha Sonic
Collect all five coins on Resort Island and finish
in first, 2nd or 3rd place. Now, defeat Mecha Sonic in a
race.
Play as Mecha Robotnik
Collect all five coins in Regal Ruins and finish in
first, second, or 3rd place. Now, defeat Mecha Robitnik in
a race.
Play as Mecha Knuckles
Collect all five coins in Radioactive Factory, and
finish in first, second, or 3rd place. Now, defeat Mecha Knuckles
in a race.
Play as Puppet Tails
Collect all five coins in Radical City and finish in
first, second, or 3rd place. Now, defeat Puppet Tails in a
race.
same character
Select multi-player mode and highlight a character,then hold [Change View] and press [Action].
Radiant Emerald course
You must finish in 1st place on each normal course.
Control Title Screen logo
From the Title Screen, press the direction controls to rotate the "R". Press [Change View] to change the color.
Course close-up
At the course selection screen, press Up and Down to zoom in and out.
